Contact Monsanto on teaming up with Agenda 21

This is a sample letter that you should use as a guide if you share the opinions of Trent Loos and Janet H. Thompson on Monsanto's recent announcement of team up on Agenda 21.

Dear Mr. Grant and Monsanto’s Board of Directors:

It has come to my attention that Monsanto has officially joined the United Nation’s Agenda 21 movement by joining the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

This is unnecessary, counterproductive and will lead to many problems for both Monsanto and your customers. As life-long agricultural producers, my family and I encourage you to reconsider lending your good name to such an organization.

Agenda 21 was birthed in 1992 at the UN’s “Earth Summit” at Rio de Janeiro. Agenda 21 is Maurice Strong’s plan to advance “the environment” through local governments all over the globe. Local governments, especially if they sign up as dues-paying members of ICLEI, are encouraged to limit what people do on their own property for supposed benefits to the environment.

In the name of nebulous, indefinable concepts such as biodiversity, sustainability, ecosystems, social justice and environment (amongst many others), a small group of people make centralized decisions about what can and cannot be done on an individual’s property.

At its core, Agenda 21 is an aggressive (albeit very clever) assault on private property.

Private property is necessary for Monsanto’s success because it is vital to each and every one of your customers. Private property is core to a free and prosperous, market-based economy.

I know that you have joined WBCSD in an attempt to demonstrate to detractors that you are doing good work and that your technologies, voluntarily purchased by farmers throughout the world, are, in fact, good for the environment.

Your technologies allow us to be more efficient. By its very nature, efficiency is good for the environment. It means we produce more food with fewer inputs. Were that not the case, farmers would not voluntarily purchase your products. Were it not for a profit motive, farmers would have no incentive to become more efficient. Were it not for private property and the surety that we personally will benefit from excellent care of and improvements to our land, no incentive for excellent care or improvements would exist.

Development improves the world around us. One need only travel to a few choice countries in the world to gain first-hand evidence of this fact.

“Sustainable Development,” though, as defined and advanced through Agenda 21, is the opposite of what it claims to be. We have many examples in history – even recent history! – of top-down, centralized decision-making leading to wide-spread starvation and degradation of land. Long-term, thoughtful investments in property improvement are traded for short-term survival decisions.

Never in the history of free-market civilization have ideas been as important as what this one is today. I beg of you to fully understand what is behind that to which you have signed up, and then to make a brave and responsible decision for the future of Monsanto and every Monsanto customer.

Clearly foggy Jan 28, 2103

The sun did its best but was not good enough today. Foggy and damp all day yet made progress here at home and thanks to Kurt and Matt Long we got a windbreak up for the cows.

In addition to the windbreak the Long's also got my Longhorn hide hung up in my office.

This mare I am calling "Start Again" because her mother was called Genesis. She is sired by Midnight Moon and you will see me quite a bit aboard this flashy mare this spring.

My first day at the 2013 PA Farm Show with the Today's Agriculture display. This is the most progressive presentation of modern food production in the whole nation.

Long time friend Tom Farrer from Royal Center, IN has just selected the Berkshire bred gilt as the Supreme Champion female. The first time in the history of the PA Farm Show that a Berkshire has been named Grand Champion.

Isaac Lewis is the Ag teacher and FFA advisor at Hampshire High School in Romney, WV invites me to partner in the purchase of this Supreme Grand Champion Berkshire bred gilt. We end up buying her together for a record price of $3400. She is due to farrow on Jan 25th and will do so at the Hampshire High School swine farm.

New Years Day 2013

We have decided to invite friends and family over for the New Years Day Capitol One Bowl with Nebraska vs Georgia. I am going to smoking a pork shoulder with cedar.

I have not used this smoker enough but three hours later the shoulder was a huge hit.

Although the frigid temperatures below zero required me to smoke water lines under the farrowing house as well.

I too was celebrating the bringing the New Year 2013 only thing is I was giving this piglet mouth to mouth in order that it would survive at 12:00 straight up.

She survived and her earnotch is 8-2 we shall see how she turns out later this summer.

Libbi with me on a great ride of Titan. Her horse and the first horse she broke quite a talent she is when it comes to horses.

Probably the most important tool here on the ranch in the month of December.

Sorry for the Holiday break but we have had tremendous family time Christmas and New Years break. So I spent very little time looking at this computer so now time to catch up.

The morning sun on Dec 23, 2012. The Christmas season was very cold and snow cover the whole time.

My Christmas present to my lovely wife Kelli. Okay so if you have never loaded hogs with your spouse this may not make sense. On the other hand if you know what it is like to load without proper fence's and loading ramps you fully understand the importance of this loading chute I just finished in time for Christmas. Love you Kelli.

Dug out, thawed out, bedded, fed and even bred.

No school thanks to the blizzard so I had great help today with Lindsi. Yes go ahead and notify the Department of Labor that some rancher Dad is taking pictures while his 10 year old daughter chops ice with an "axe".

Cows have to be God's most amazing creation (right after Jesus). Look they survive anyway, they eat stuff not good for anything else, cellulose, and they make what people need to live. I want to be as tough as a cow one day. The blizzard hit and they are just happy as can be on corn stalks.

Why is that silly cowboy always laying on the ground?

These hogs figured out how to handle the snow drifts in their pen. They made tunnels from the shed to the feeder to the waterer. I WANT A CAFO.

First project of the day collected El Regresso and bred the 1-1 spot sow.

Random photos on blizzard Dec 19, 2012

This is my market hog finishing pen in a blizzard today. Meanwhile pigs in a confinement building (incorrectly called a factory farm) are still in 75 degree building and don't know it is even snowing. I NEED A CAFO.

The snow can be so beautiful yet so troubling at the same time. Actually snow is no problem but when the wind comes beauty turns ugly.

Okay call me crazier than your pet coon but I love winter.

The story of 21-3 crossbred sow sired by Snowflake

Okay I have mentioned before I am not a big fan of my own crossbred hogs but let me tell you about 21-3. Here she is about 30 days from farrowing.

This barrow is from her litter born July 20, 2012 and will be exhibited by Lindsi Loos at the Arizona National hog show the week after Christmas in Phoenix, AZ. He is sired by COD a son of Package at the A Cut Above stud Benedict, NE.

So she has just farrowed again on Dec 17, 2012. Think she has any milk?

Trying to out do herself in the past she farrowed 13 live pigs born to Anticipation on stud at Purple Power in Chalmers, IN. He is a Duroc boar and the pigs look tremendous. I earnotched them today and they are litter number 8 watch for them next summer.
